Our Story
We were founded to resolve the disconnect between significant urban tree canopy waste and the importation and harvesting of wood from far away places. When a tree comes down, we work with your favorite tree service to take what would be otherwise wasted away in a stump dump or burn pile and instead, create a valuable seasoned firewood.
Because of its hyper-local nature, our firewood has a fraction of the carbon footprint as other firewood products as it is not imported from another state or even worse, another country.
When you use Carolina Urban Firewood, the “tree that it once was”, most likely grew less than 10 miles from where you’re building your fire. Most importantly, our wood was never harvested for the purpose of firewood. That locality and consciousness is what makes Carolina Urban Firewood one of the most sustainable firewood brands. Period.
Properly Seasoned.
It’s time to stock up on firewood but oh, the options. Air-dried, Kiln-dried, seasoned, firewood from Europe?? So many options and so many conflicting theories on which is best.
Carolina Urban Firewood makes a seasoned firewood meaning it has been stored under shelter and out of the rain for at least 6 months to achieve proper moisture content for burning (15-18%). To further ensure you’re getting what we promise, every batch of firewood is tested by a moisture meter and its results are marked directly on the bag or cord.
Alternatively, kilns can also be used to remove moisture from firewood but most often, they are typically used for bug-kill and state-line transfer requirements and the wood isn’t in the kiln long enough to remove the moisture necessary for a good, quality firewood.
